The Best Seat in
English Harbour

Luxury Beachfront Penthouse Apartment , English Harbour,  Antigua

South Point 205 is one of three penthouses at South Point, a small, luxury waterfront development in English Harbour, Antigua. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a long private deck that we think offers the best views in the harbour. The marina, Falmouth Harbour, the beach and the pool are all laid out in front of you, with the hills behind, and in season some of the world's more remarkable yachts moor within view.

Nelson's Dockyard, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a short walk. Pigeon Point, voted one of Antigua's best beaches, is 600 metres along the shore, and the Antigua Yacht Club is next door, which makes the apartment a very good base for Sailing Week and the Falmouth Harbour regattas. Within South Point itself there is a pool, a jetty, a small private beach, a cocktail bar and Maia, the waterfront restaurant, so an evening need not involve going anywhere at all. When it does, English Harbour, with its bars, restaurants, tennis club and several supermarkets and delis, is within walking distance. You will not need a car.

The apartment sleeps six comfortably and eight with the bunk room full, which makes it one of the few places in the harbour that offers a swimming pool and works for two families or three couples together.

Luxury Living Space & Facilities

The living space is typically Caribbean: open plan, high-ceilinged, light and airy; and opens onto a terrace so that the sea is always in view. There is a full kitchen for anyone inclined to cook, air conditioning throughout and WiFi in every room for those who have to stay in touch with the office, ideally from the deck.

The two principal bedrooms are en suite, each with a super king bed that can be made up as twins, and each with its own small balcony. The third is a custom-built bunk room with four single beds and its own bathroom, which children, teenagers and crew all seem to love. The terrace runs to around 50 feet, faces the marina and has the sunset along with several sunloungers from which to enjoy it.

    • Two ensuite bedrooms with private balconies (super king or twin)
    • En-suite bunk room sleeping four
    • Fully equipped kitchen
    • 50 ft terrace with marina and sunset views
    • Air conditioning and WiFi throughout

Outdoor & Resort Amenities

Guests share the pool and its sun decks, the jetty, the small beach in front of the building, and kayaks and paddle boards for pottering about on the water. There are a couple of laundry rooms on site, which anyone staying a fortnight might want to make use of.

English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour are the sailing heart of the Caribbean and there is always something on the water to watch, from the Classic Yacht Regatta in April through Sailing Week and on into the charter season. On land there are hiking trails through the surrounding national park, with or without a guide, the dramatic history of Nelson’s Dockyard, and for families Stingray City or a day out with

Barefoot Antigua boat charters.

For eating and drinking we would send you first to Catherine's for a long lunch and cocktails (book for the weekend, when there is live music), Bumpkins on Pigeon Beach for a banana colada as the sun goes down, Colibri for Romantic French Creole in the evening, and Loose Cannon at Galleon Beach, a short water taxi across the harbour, for delicious food, music at the weekend and a sunset worth staying for. Shirley Heights holds its barbecue on Sunday and Thursday evenings, and Rum in the Ruins, a Friday afternoon talk and tasting at the interpretation centre, is an hour very well spent. Ask us and we will happily send more.

My wife and I stayed with my parents over Christmas. It was the perfect place to stay. Two huge bedrooms and a big deck overlooking all the super yachts. The kitchen is well equipped and the owners are very responsive and accommodating. Would definitely stay again.

Great Apartment with fabulous amenities and terrace only a few minutes walk from all the restaurants and bars at English Harbour. Very lively at night so not peaceful in the evening but great during the day. Jonelle was our host for our 10 day stay and was very attentive. Cleaner was excellent.

We had the opportunity to stay here in December 2024 - it was absolutely incredible! The front deck was amazing we spent many hours watching the yachts and boats in the harbour. The location is a short walk to many great restaurants in English Harbour and is a short walk to Pigeon Beach. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The management team were fantastic and extremely responsive. Highly recommend and hope to return.

Beautiful place, the host was very responsive. The house has all the amenities and the bathrooms are beautiful. They gave us a lot of recommendations, and there are a lot of restaurants nearby that are very chilled.

Out and About

Beyond the Deck: discover what is on your doorstep

These are our own recommendations for sailing and sport, viewpoints, restaurants and beaches, all within easy reach of the apartment. We are perfectly placed accommodation in Antigua for Sailing Week. It is not a complete list, just the places we go back to and that have never let us down. We add to it each visit and are always delighted to hear about somewhere we have missed. That said, some of the best hours here are spent on the terrace with a drink watching the harbour, and there is no obligation to go anywhere at all.

SAILING & OTHER SPORTS

The Antigua Yacht Club is next door and the National Sailing Academy is close by for more sailing or diving at Dive Carib. Barefoot Antigua runs private charters for a day on the water, whether that is a sail round the island or over to Barbuda for lunch at Nobu and they can pick you up from the dock.

On land, we like to play tennis at Servivor Sports Club, next to the Antigua Superyacht Club, a few minutes away. The national park has walking trails for every level with or without a guide, and there is horseback riding on the beach that ends with the horses in the sea.

LOOKOUTS

Shirley Heights is the one everyone knows, and rightly: from the old gun battery you look straight down over English and Falmouth Harbours, and at dusk the light does the rest. Go on a Sunday or Thursday for the barbecue, or any other evening for the view without the crowd.

A little lower down, the Dow's Hill interpretation centre has much the same outlook and is where Rum in the Ruins is held on a Friday. For a walk rather than a drive, the path out to Fort Berkeley at the mouth of the Dockyard takes twenty minutes via Nelson’s Dockyard or forty five minutes via the goat-trail behind Pigeon Point beach and puts the whole harbour entrance in front of you.

DINING

You will eat well here without going far. Maia, the restaurant at South Point, and Catherine's on the next door beach both do the waterfront properly: good fish, good cocktails and toes in the sand. Colibri, a short walk into English Harbour, is French Creole and the place we take people on their first night. Lemongrass does a Thai menu with a happy hour from half past five.

For something less polished, Flatties for ribs and wings, Paparazzi for pizza, or Indian Summer, will all do a takeaway for a night in on the terrace.

BEACHES

Pigeon Point is ten minutes on foot and is the beach you will use most: sheltered, calm, sand that shelves gently, and Bumpkins and Catherine's at either end for when the sun gets to be too much. It is the beach the harbour's locals use, which tells you what you need to know. Carry on past it and over the headland and you reach Windward, which is a different proposition altogether: open to the Atlantic, breezy, often empty, with no bar and nothing to buy. It is where you go to walk, to think, or to be the only person on a beach for an hour.

Galleon Beach is the other side of the harbour mouth, a short water taxi across, with Loose Cannon for lunch and a longer stretch of sand. Further afield, Half Moon Bay on the east coast is the wild one, a long crescent with surf on one side and Beach Bum for lobster. The private beach at South Point is small but has the advantage of being at the bottom of the stairs.
